This pendant features a gorgeous example of wood replacement opal where the opal material forms in the void left by decayed tree roots or branches. Pockets of violet and pink shades swirl through the host rock in this specimen weighing over 6 1/2 carats.
I've wrapped it in 22k gold on oxidized silver and framed the opal with semi-precious beads of citrine, tanzanite and pink sapphire on 14k pins. The chain adjusts from 24 to 26 inches with a freeform oval of 18k gold linked asymmetrically in the chain.
