This 3.9 carat pipe opal from Queensland, Australia is a celebration of soft pastel color. I aimed to add to this celebration by wrapping it in an 18k gold bezel and a base of 22k gold and sterling silver bimetal*.
A faceted 3 mm pink sapphire sits opposite a lush fringe of tanzanite, pink sapphire, tsavorite garnet and blue topaz on 14k gold headpins. The 14k chain adjusts from 16 to 18 inches with an extender chain.
*22k gold/silver bimetal features a substantial layer of 22k gold pressure bonded to a layer of silver. The front of the piece shows the gold layer and the back is silver.
